Good evening,
On the reverse of this page you will see the class grading structure and classroom rules. I have made it clear to your children that I adhere strictly to the school attendance policy. If your child is tardy, and this is usually only a problem for some students in my first period class, please remind them of the consequences. Also, please remind them to keep up with their homework. Some students feel that since the homework “only” counts for 25% of their grade, they can skip it and it won’t make much difference. Well, a 25% reduction in a student’s grade turns an A student into a D+/C- student, and a B student into an F/D- student.
Some other things I’d like you to be aware of. The class is an economics survey class. We will study topics in macroeconomics and microeconomics. We will study economic systems and the works of Adam Smith and Karl Marx. We will then study types of business structures and this will lead into the stock and bond markets, as well as 401(k)s and IRAs. We will also study supply and demand, national income accounting (GDP, CPI, etc.), fiscal and monetary policy, taxation and government spending, monopolies and oligopolies, and international trade. These topics are all fascinating and should supply hours of stimulating conversation between you and your teenagers. I also want you to know these topics because we start each day with current events, and if you hear any news on any economic issue, please take the opportunity to say to your child “Say, this sounds like just the thing Mr. Cadenasso would like to talk about in class. Why don’t you bring it up tomorrow?”
I have posted grades on e-school and update after each test, approximately every two weeks. Grades are also on my desk for students to see every day. If you notice your child’s grade slipping please encourage them to come see me. I am in my room every day before school, during brunch, and lunch. If you ever need to contact me, I can be reached at 408-201-6200x41203. I can also be reached via e-mail at [email protected].
So far we are having a great semester and I’m sure it will continue. The students are engaged and learning new things every day. Thank you for coming out this evening.
